Position Description

Position Title: Commercial Lines Account Manager

Effective: July 1, 2019

Primary Functions:

Work in conjunction with Account Executives to maintain and grow a book of commercial accounts. Responsible for managing, evaluating, servicing and marketing of both new and renewal accounts. Must possess the knowledge and abilities to act independently in all phases of commercial account processing. Cooperatively work with account executives, supervisors, and peers in a team environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding service to all prospects and clients
  • Manage new business and renewal workflows, coordinating with the Account Executive to obtain updated renewal information starting at 120 days in advance of x-date.
  • Consistently provide the customer with prompt, knowledgeable, and timely responses to calls or inquiries
  • Document all calls, emails, activities and transactions accurately and timely in AMS360
  • Coordinate service workflows.
  • Maintain expiration list for assigned accounts
  • Identify, obtain and analyze all information necessary to evaluate risk exposures and determine appropriate coverages (Financials, Loss Runs, etc.)
  • Gather updated renewal information from clients directly as needed.
  • Prepare new business and renewal applications/submissions including all supplemental forms, spreadsheets, business income worksheets, ID cards, proposals, etc. within office standard and procedures
  • In conjunction with the account executive determine the best market(s) and account placement decisions including negotiating coverage terms, conditions, premiums and commissions
  • Bind coverage; order binders / policies
  • Invoice agency bill items within 24 hours and follow up for collection
  • Check / Process policies and endorsements
  • Order endorsements; update coverages, and premiums in AMS360
  • Issue and review certificate requests, within office response time standards. Certificates are almost always the first priority.
  • Follow agency standard procedures for processing policy cancellations.
  • Process client and carrier mail in a timely manner
  • Report claims and monitor claims activity
  • Maintain files and input data according to agency procedures
  • Understand and maintain all agency performance standards and procedures.
  • Whenever possible, assist other team members with any backlogs.
  • Arrange for necessary back up to handle urgent or priority items/phone calls/emails in your absence. Handle urgent and / or priority items for other team members in their absence or arrange for assistance.
  • Attempt to round out accounts with other product lines that the Client may need. (Life / Health, Personal Lines, etc.)
  • Assume other related job responsibilities as assigned.

Supervision Received:

  • Supervision by the Vice President of Commercial Lines

Supervision Provided:

  • When required delegate tasks to general clerical personnel


  • Active California Insurance License – Property & Casualty
  • Minimum of 2 years in Commercial Lines Insurance
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written
  • Detail oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of AMS360 Agency Management Systems
  • Dependable / Well organized
  • Able to multi-task
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, decision making, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
